Written by Nathan and Jer, two adventurous Washington brothers, Hiking with My Brother is a fantastic resource for planning your next hike. The brothers post a trip report after each weekly hiking adventure, offering a personal glimpse into Washington’s great outdoors. Each trip report offers maps, difficulty ratings, photos and everything you need to plan your next family day-trip.
Seattle-based Madi Carlson’s blog on FamilyRide shares tips for biking with kids through recaps of her family adventures. If you’re active in the family biking scene or looking to get started, this is a great resource to keep tabs on.
The Hiker Mama
Jennifer Johnson is the powerhouse behind The Hiker Mama, a blog that profiles her family’s adventures across Washington. The blog is a great one to follow for new inspiration as you’re planning a hike with younger kids.
Adventure Awaits is the daily blog of Washington State Parks. If you’re looking to plan an adventure at a Washington state park or recreation area, this site is full of ideas. And if you’re looking for a particular activity (hiking, biking, horseback riding & more) you can use the easy activity search on the site to find an adventure near you.
Portland Family Adventures
If you live in the Portland area, this is a must-follow blog for finding new outdoor adventure close to home. Vince and his wife Holly started Portland Family Adventures to give other local parents advice on the best places for camping, kid-friendly hiking, fantastic indoor adventures and more. The photography is fantastic and each post includes information on recommended ages, parental stress factor and family fun factor. How great is that?
Exploring Portland’s Natural Areas
Michael and his wife Catherine started Exploring Portland’s Natural Areas to profile their family’s outdoor excursions in and around Portland. The site is a great resource for keeping up on outdoor events in the Portland area.
Northwest Trip Finder
Lauren Braden has grown Northwest TripFinder into an incredible resource for any Northwest family. Profiling British Columbia all the way through Oregon, the site gives advice on camping, seasonal activities like apple picking and much more. If you’re looking to plan a longer trip, this is where you want to head first for inspiration.
Similar to Northwest TripFinder, Cascadia Kids covers the full Pacific Northwest family-style. Lora Shinn is a longtime (and passionate!) resident of the Pacific Northwest and is also the author of Northwest Kid Trips: Portland, Seattle, Victoria, Vancouver. Cascadia Kids is organized by region, allowing you to find the perfect adventure near you.
