We know planning a family adventure can be difficult. The inevitable questions arise – where to go? What to do? Is it really that kid-friendly? To ease your planning stress and get your family out into the great outdoors this summer, we’ve compiled a list our favorite family adventure blogs for you. And while Parent Map and Red Tricycle are fantastic resources for Northwest parents, we’ve gone a bit deeper to profile some blogs you may not have heard about yet.
Hiking with My Brother
Written by Nathan and Jer, two adventurous Washington brothers, Hiking with My Brother is a fantastic resource for planning your next hike. The brothers post a trip report after each weekly hiking adventure, offering a personal glimpse into Washington’s great outdoors. Each trip report offers maps, difficulty ratings, photos and everything you need to plan your next family day-trip.
Brought to you by another sibling duo, Tmber was started by John, Nina and their adventurous friends to bring you an easy-to-navigate Northwest hiking resource. For a family adventure, use their hiking navigator and search “family-friendly” hikes. You’ll find great overview videos and in-depth hiking reports to help you choose the perfect hike for your family.
Seattle-based Madi Carlson’s blog on FamilyRide shares tips for biking with kids through recaps of her family adventures. If you’re active in the family biking scene or looking to get started, this is a great resource to keep tabs on.
The Hiker Mama

Portland Family Adventures
If you live in the Portland area, this is a must-follow blog for finding new outdoor adventure close to home. Vince and his wife Holly started Portland Family Adventures to give other local parents advice on the best places for camping, kid-friendly hiking, fantastic indoor adventures and more. The photography is fantastic and each post includes information on recommended ages, parental stress factor and family fun factor. How great is that?
Exploring Portland’s Natural Areas
