Want to prep like a pro? Just add music. A recent study published in The Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research found that listening to upbeat songs before a 5K can help improve race pace. After the race, you can even aid your body’s recovery by listening to calming music.
Alysha Clark, who plays forward for the WNBA’s Seattle Storm, knows all about it. “Our pre-game music gets us pumped up and ready to go,” she says. “The right song can put you in a great mood, and when you’re in a great mood, you tend to feel great too.”
