Take the #YouGotThis Hiking Challenge This Summer

Hiking Monday, July 28, 2014 Written by

There’s no better place than the Pacific Northwest—especially during the summer. The sun shines bright, the rain finally gives us a break, and opportunities for outdoor fun are all around.

To get outside and hike in Washington’s and Oregon’s natural beauty is its own reward. However, that’s not going to stop Actively Northwest and LifeWise from sweetening your summer hiking deal even more.

LifeWise is giving people of all activity levels a chance to win hiking-related prizes when they hit the trails July 28 through October 5.

Summer Hiking Challenge Mountain Loop
Just post a photo of yourself on any Washington or Oregon trail to the #YouGotThis Hiking Challenge tab on Facebook and you’ll be entered into a random drawing to win one of 10 weekly prizes. There’s also a grand prize—$2,500 toward an REI Adventures trip of your choice—that will be awarded to one lucky winner in October. You can enter one photo per day. See official rules for details.

Entering is as easy as…

1. Hit the Trails

Hike any of the amazing trails across Washington or Oregon this summer.

2. Take a Photo

Snap a photo of yourself and let us see you out enjoying a hike.

3. Upload Your Photo

You can also join LifeWise for a series of events to help maintain some of our favorite Northwest trails and support our pledge to hike 10,000 miles throughout the challenge. Take a photo at any of these events and use it to enter the sweepstakes:

  • Join volunteers in repairing and maintaining a trail at Portland’s Forest Park on Aug. 23 from 9 a.m. to noon. Work will include removing invasive plant species and spreading gravel to repair the trail. This is a dirty job so come prepared in grubby, waterproof clothing and boots. Organizers will provide gloves and tools. All participants must sign a waiver (provided on-site) and kids under 18 must provide a signature from an adult.
  • In the Seattle area, come to the Llandover Woods 2nd Sunday Work Party on Sept. 14 from 9 a.m. to noon. LifeWise volunteers will work on annual maintenance tasks (clearing invasive plants, spreading mulch and more) along this trail. To join the work party, please print and sign the waiver and provide an adult’s signature for children under the age of 18.

The challenge has been laid at your feet. So lace up your hiking shoes and get out there and enjoy the summer. You Got This!
