4 Smoothie Recipes That Will Have You Seeing Green

Healthy Recipes Monday, March 3, 2014 Written by

Looking for a way to get more greens in your diet? A handful of spinach, chard or kale blended with fruit and your choice of protein into a green smoothie can give your body a boost of healthy vitamins.

Green smoothies are popular with people like former Olympic swimmer and Northwest native Ariana Kukors, who shared a favorite recipe on KING 5’s New Day Northwest in her role as LifeWise Director of Health Inspiration. Ariana is also a fan of green juice, which requires special equipment (or lots of patience) for extracting liquid nutrients from fruit and vegetables while leaving behind the fiber. Learn more about juicing in our beginner’s guide. Smoothies are more filling because of the fiber and added protein. All you need is a blender to get started.

In the spirit of Saint Patrick’s Day, we offer you four green smoothie recipes (courtesy of Nourish Northwest) to try. One of these recipes will be featured at the LifeWise Health Plan of Oregon booth during the Adidas Shamrock Fitness Fair, March 14-15, 2014.
